Meet The Team

Alan Wallace
Chief Executive Officer

Alan started his career in banking in the late seventies working in asset-based lending and block discounting moving to Dun & Bradstreet in the eighties as a senior business development executive.

Following the transition from banking to business analysis he accepted a role as a regional board director for the Infocheck group working in conjunction with HMU a specialist insurance underwriting agency.

In 1993 Alan was one of the triumvirate who founded Indemnity & Risk Management Ltd (I&R), a specialist insurance broker, which following a merger with a similar firm in the US became International Risk Consultants (IRC), until 2007 when IRC (Europe), was acquired by R K Harrison the prominent London market insurance broker.  He assumed the role of Chairman of the Financial Risks division until the summer of 2011.

In 2014 he returned to banking in the London market as Head of Insurance Services in Bank ABC and remained until 2017 when the investment vehicle Altra Consultants purchased London market broker Parker Norfolk and Partners Ltd (PNP).  He is CEO of both Altra and PNP and a stakeholder in both.

Alan lives near Loch Lomond in Scotland and works from there, London and Birmingham.  He is married, has two children approaching ‘grown-up’, has 2 dogs and as many motorcycles and loves classic rock amongst other genres of music.

Tracey Anderson
Managing Director

Tracey is the Managing Director of Parker Norfolk and is responsible for the day to day running of the business, bringing over 26 years of experience in the UK & International broking sector.

As specialist in Trade and structured credit insurance she successfully founded IRC Europe a business built both organically and by acquisition, to become the largest independent specialty trade credit insurance broker in the UK and the second largest in Europe.

Tracey’s experience is in the building of strong teams and employee groups with the primary focus on achieving superior client’s satisfaction.

When Tracey is not at work she can be found in the gym or spending time with her family.

Peter Dalton
Chief Operating Officer / Chief Risk Officer

Peter has over 30 years’ experience in the London insurance market, which he has supported with academic achievement by completing a Masters in Insurance and Risk Management (MSc) with distinction and obtaining fellowship status with the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII).

Peter started his career in claims rising to Global Head of Claims of a medium sized broker, before moving to more strategic roles including Administration Officer and Chief Risk Officer. 

Peter brings a wealth of experience, joining from medium-sized brokers going through constant change, his role has often been varied and he was keen for that to continue.

His new roles working closely with the Managing Director to ensure the group has robust systems and controls with efficient and innovative products and processes for clients.

Laura Ferguson
Director – Trade Credit

Laura is a Director at Parker Norfolk with responsibility of setting up a London and Birmingham Trade Credit operation. Her responsibilities are to establish a Trade Credit book of business and service it to a high standard with her team.

Laura has worked in the Trade Credit Insurance industry for 24 years. During that time, she worked for Sedgwick and subsequently Marsh as a Senior Client Executive with a portfolio of strategic clients and was promoted to Practice Leader run the region before joining PNP. She has a wide knowledge of the retail, food, and drink sectors among others. Her core values are being innovative, client focused and always aiming to get the best results for clients.

Prior to working life, she lived in Canada and Singapore. She has a Law Degree and a Diploma in Legal Practice. In her spare time, Laura enjoys spending time with her family, and horse riding.

Rob Farquharson
Director – Trade Credit

Rob has over 16 years Trade Credit experience working with clients and underwriters to structure and place insurance policies and facilities to meet the client’s requirements.

As an innovator, he has negotiated facilities for some of the UK’s major businesses. Rob is excellent at building client relationships and developing new products and opportunities for specialist industries, in particular Banking and Finance.

He started his credit insurance career with the underwriter Euler Hermes before joining the broking community, where he has developed strong relationships providing exceptional bespoke insurance solutions.

In his spare time you will find Rob exploring the countryside with his family, tackling hills on his road bike and playing football in the garden with his son.

Richard Bishop
Director - Financial & Political Risks

Richard is an experienced insurance professional with over 30 years working in both international and UK markets as both an underwriter and broker, with a detailed knowledge on the creation and operation of underwriting facilities using an MGA/MGU platform.

An acknowledged expert in the field of Islamic insurance and reinsurance (Takaful/ReTakaful) including the creation and structuring of capacity and products by financial institutions in support of insurance markets based in the EMEA regions, and is an author of a number of Shariah Rulings (fatwa) defining Shariah compliance for insurance carriers in the London Market including both insurance company and Lloyd’s syndicate capacity, operating both as Takaful “windows” of conventional risk capital and for those utilising fully Shariah compliant risk capital.

He is a key industry speaker and author of many articles on the nature and benefits of Shariah compliant insurance and reinsurance protection and was the founder of both the first UK based Shariah compliant broker, and co-founder of the first Shariah compliant MGA and Lloyd’s Coverholder.

Rob Farquharson
Director – Trade Credit

Stuart Thomas
Director – Specie

Stuart is now on his 30th year insuring risks in the Specie world. From cash in transit and precious metal mining to fine art collections and jewellery manufacturers, there is very little he hasn’t been exposed to.

Whether it is the largest precious metal risk ever insured in Lloyd’s of London to the transit of goods into sanctioned countries with appropriate permissions, Stuart has considerable experience of the vast and varied nature of the specie market.

Insurance is one thing but understanding a client’s business is more important. To support this principle Stuart has spent seven years working directly in the secure logistics industry, seeing first hand the risks faced by clients that mine, refine, manufacture, trade, restore, process, and securely store all kinds of valuable items.

Oliver Gregory
Associate – Financial & Political Risks

Oliver joins with 5 years’ experience in Banking, having worked in Trade Finance, specifically in the Distribution sphere for a number of years.

Whilst working in the Banking Market, Oliver’s foremost responsibility was looking after Financial Institutions and Non-Banking Financial Institutions (primarily based) in the Middle East. Most recently, he was also responsible for the relationships between his Bank and the wider Insurance Market.

Oliver complements his time in the Banking market with a First Class degree in Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies.

Oliver brings his unique experience and understanding to the table, having a tremendous grasp of what Financial Institutions require to best penetrate and make optimum use of the wider Insurance Market.

Barbara Merry
Chairman

Barbara is the chairman of Parker Norfolk. She is a chartered accountant with over 30 years’ experience in the insurance industry, latterly as the CEO of the Hardy Underwriting Group which managed syndicate 382 at Lloyd’s.

Since 2014, Barbara has been building a non executive director portfolio and currently participates on a number of regulated insurance boards. She is also actively involved with the charity Fight for Sight and, as an active angel investor, has an interest in several non insurance related businesses.

She has been instrumental in raising awareness around gender diversity in the insurance sector and has led the development of gender oriented business networks and also a learning and development forum aimed at aspiring young female insurance professionals.

She is currently involved with the CII’s initiative, Insuring Women’s Futures, which is focused on improving the financial resilience of the younger generation. 

In her spare time, Barbara enjoys traveling, reading and Killer Sudoku!

Cathy Brayne
Client Services Manager

Cathy Brayne has 40+ years of experience in Trade Credit Insurance. Prior to joining Parker Norfolk & Partners Ltd, Cathy worked for a number of the UK’s leading broking houses. Her responsibilities included placing and managing the administration of policies for clients, providing risk solutions and above all providing a high level of client service.

Prior to working as a broker, Cathy was a Team Leader at Barclays Bank managing their finance schemes supported by trade credit insurance policies which followed her first job with Export Credits Guarantee Department back in 1974.

In her spare time, Cathy likes to enjoy life, reading, listening to music, going to concerts and the theatre and holidays!

Darren Warkcup
Director – Property and Casualty

Darren has worked in the Insurance/Reinsurance Industry since 1985, with a number of roles both Underwriting at Syndicates and Broking and is well known in the London/U.S./Canadian and Australasian Markets that have been the focus of his business.

Darren is passionate about the Independent Wholesale MGA and working with these MGA’s to start and grow, whilst also focusing on making an Underwriting Return for his Markets via structured products, technology and utilizing his Underwriting Experience to bespoke deals that other London Brokers cannot. Although the current trend has seen a flight to large Corporately owned MGA’s Darren believes that to consistently make profit for all parties ‘Less is More’ and that over the Insurance Market cycle niche bespoke Independent MGA’s can bring their unique experience’s to underwriting, product, rating and retail relationships which in turn creates profit.  The Independent MGA is therefore the backbone of the London Market.

Darren heads up the Property and Casualty Wholesale team here at Parker Norfolk and is always keen to hear from MGA’s that would prefer a high level of service with the mantra within the team that if we are awake we are working and you will get a reply.

In his spare time Darren is the Treasurer of the U.K. Down’s Syndrome Association and his other main interest is Football with Everton being his love outside of Family and of course Insurance!

Sean Bassett
Director - Casualty

Sean is in his twentieth year in the UK and International Casualty market as a broker and has a detailed knowledge of the ever changing products and market place.

Sean brings his vast experience and understanding to the table combining innovation and market understanding when working with clients. Understanding a client’s business is his priority when seeking Insurance solutions, from large corporate placements, SME through to Independent wholesale MGA’s. Sean is excellent at developing client relationships and product development.

Sean joins the Casualty Wholesale team at PNP with hunger and ambition to grow and support the company ethos.

Jack Dalton
Head of UK Retail

Jack is a Business and Accounting university graduate who originally started his trade as a sales executive in the Electrical Wholesale arena before moving to the City of London nearly a decade ago. 

Jack has always had a client first approach and as such has had many successes in the UK insurance market predominately focusing on industries such as transportation/logistics, motor traders, contractors, wholesalers and innovative risks. Jack also believes that a technology led proposition and making insurance “hassle free” is the future for UK businesses as clients require simple to action insurance policies so that they can continue to develop their businesses without worry or wasting unnecessary time.

In his spare time Jack likes to frequent The Den as a season ticket holder as it’s the only free time he gets at present with a young family at home!
